the suspects could have been linked to an armed robbery in san jose. here's the intersection where the drive-by shooting happened and police were led on a wild chase through three east bay cities late last night. our cameras caught the chase north through 880. police tried to pull the driver other in hayward for dui and reckless driving. but he sped off through san leandro and oakland. the car spun out of control between 580 between harrison and park and police cars slammed into it to box the car in. officers say people were throwing things out on the roadway. they never found the objects but officers did find weapons inside the vehicle when it finally stopped. >> they pursued the vehicle in oakland where it crossed across the center median. the three occupants were taken into custody from there. >> reporter: police believe those three could be tied to a shooting in hayward early yesterday afternoon. a man was driving with his wife and child at tennyson and kalaroga when he was struck by a bullet and taken to the hospital. he's expected to survive. a hayward police officer tweeted around mid

in san jose are investigating a fatal accident just after 2:00 this morning, police found a gravely injured man behind the wheel of a totaled car on the sidewalk near southbound monterey road and kurt near avenue. the car crashed through two trees and a light pole. the man died a short time later and southbound monterey road was blocked for hours as officers investigated. >>> a homicide investigation is underway in napa after a gruesome discovery was made this morning on a highway overcrossing. firefighters and police received several calls just before 4:00 a.m. about a burning object on highway 29 on a pedestrian overpass near industrial way. when firefighters arrived, they found a man's body totally engulfed in flames. he was pronounced dead at the scene. no one reported seeing how the man was set on fire. right now police are investigating his death as a homicide. >> we're not sure if it's a homicide or suicide and we're treating it as the homicide and then less information or evidence suggests otherwise. >> the man's identity is unknown and
with developing story i san jose police looking for a gunman who they say shot a man in an apparent drive-by shooting. >> here is the place we're talking about. the address is 1720 hopkins and drive. that is a middle school area. let me push in and show you the area we're talking about. this again a middle school nestled in a community. police said the victim between 18 and 20 years old was standing on the sidewalk when a light colored guess you the drove by and someone opened fire. the victim remains in a hospital this morning their condition remains unknown. that happened just about 2 mi. away from monday's deadly officer involved shooting. authorities have identified bruce barthelemy as the san jose police officer was shot and killed a man they said tried to ram him with a car. this is video from our helicopter partnership with abc seven news. the officer, members of san jose metro unit, were dressed in plain clothes when they noticed a suspicious car and found out it was stolen. the passenger in the stolen car is now facing several charges. >> a train hit and killed a pedestrian on th

-involved shooting in unincorporated san jose. ktvu channel 2 reporter janine de la vega is live in san jose with what police are saying about gunfire that followed an overnight chase. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, tori. sheriff's deputies just cleared the scene on jerilyn drive. they've been here for 12 hours investigating. we were just told by a neighbor. they say this is where the suspect in a stolen car was shot, where you see all of this broken glass and just across the street, that's where they say that he crashed his car after he was shot. i don't know if you can see. there's some debris there, still in the street in this residential neighborhood. now, this all took place just before 7:00 last night. san jose police were driving in unmarked cars from the specialized metro team. they spotted the stolen car, tried to spot it. authorities say they did use their lights and siren. the suspect then started to ram into police cars and the parked vehicle. one of the officers got out of his car. investigators say that's when the suspect

and vandalism. >>> 7:05. san jose police have released photos of a man and a woman suspected of violently stealing another woman's purse. ktvu channel 2 reporter janine de la vega joins us from the scene of the crime. so janine, are people in the area concerned about their safety? >> reporter: they definitely are. you know, we're here near the ray street light rail station. most of the people i spoke to said they hadn't heard about this attack but this happened in the buena vista neighborhood in the 500 block of race street. we're told by people that this area is considered safe. but police are hoping that you can help them track down the two suspects they say are responsible. they say this young woman and a young man in their early 20s were working as a team when they targeted a woman who was riding the light rail on february 6th. just before 7:00 that night, the female victim got off at the race street light rail station. police say the female suspect followed her, punched her and then kicked her until she fell to the ground and tried to take her pu
on breaking news we brought you this morning out of san jose. police are investigating a high school field trip where a sex offender hopped on board the same bus as students and went along for the ride. it happened within the eastside union high school district. this morning, the superintendent says that man was not authorized to be on that bus. nbc bay area's bob redell joins us live from andrew hill high school with the new information for us. bob? >> reporter: a couple of things. good morning to you, marla. turns out this involved not only students from andrew hill high but also silver creek high as well. we have a better idea of how this registered sex offender was allowed to ride on the bus with the several high school students. as was outlined in this letter by the school superintendent to the parents of these students, this happened on february 14th during a field trip to the de anza college for about 30 students from both schools. during the return, a parent in a wheelchair requested a ride for her and her male friend. one of the staff let her and the man on board and felt bad she
